Victor looks up from his work, analyzing the sludge he retrieved from the statues in the hedge maze.

“Ah, I was wondering how long it would be before you found a way to contact me.”  He looks tired, skin drawn tight over his face, deep lines of worry etched in his brow.

“Look, honestly, I have not seen my dimensional double from your realm in months, I have no idea where he is hiding or what he may possibly be up to.  Right now, I have something very, very distressing on my hooves.”

He pours a sample of the foul-smelling fluid onto a glass sample slide, placing it into a microscope before placing one of the stone shard samples on another, comparing the two.

“If I hear from him, I shall do my best to contact you, but in the meantime…  Well, this could be a very, very bad situation…”

Victor raced through the forest on silent paws, the wind rushing through his lupine fur was exhilarating.  He paused now and then to sniff at the air, making absolutely sure that nopony was following him.  He needed to be cautious tonight.  The moon was full and swollen, hanging low and red in the sky.  It was early yet, but on a night like tonight his power was at it’s peak.  However, that also meant that the moon was incredibly bright, lighting up the town almost as bright as day.

Victor chuckled softly to himself.  It was almost time.  Years of agonizing waiting, politics, playing the good little executioner for the prisoners Celestia did not want to dirty her precious, pristine white hooves with.  It was all coming to a head.

Opening the small black steel case, he placed several uncontaminated sample vials within.  Carefully, he wiped every last possible speck of dust from his diamond-tipped core sampling drill, placing it carefully in the cut foam custom made for it.
